This Help topic will familiarize you with Match Inquiry
What is Match Inquiry?Match Inquiry is a way for coaches, players, and spectators to find out if a given match has referees assigned. When logged on to this site as a referee, Match Inquiry also allows you to find matches that need referees, and if permitted, to self-assign for that match.
BackgroundThere are several fields that are used to search for matches. ALL fields are used in the search criteria. Next to each field is a check box. That box determines whether or not that information is displayed in the search results. But again, the choices you make in the different fields will be used as the search criteria whether or not you have checked the box (to display the different fields in the results). Below is a picture with numbers next to important fields. Each ordered paragraph below the picture will match up with the appropriate number in the picture.

- This is the Date field. It is automatically set to (today’s) date. As it looks now, it will search for each game from this date forward. You can change the date field to search previous dates, or one specific date. Example setting the date range to 11-16-02 - 11-16-02 would give games only on the 16th of November.
- This is the Times field. Much like the date field, you can play with it to search during certain times of the day. You can use military time, or the standard 11:00 AM notation. It is a little tricky to use though, and it is recommended you just leave it blank (with means to search all times).
- You can use the Day field in conjunction with the Date field effectively. For example, you can keep the date as it is (searching all games from today's date forward) and set the day field to Saturday. This would show all games which fall on a Saturday from this date forward.
- Match #'s are very important. The FC Fremont referees work with match numbers MUCH more than we do with dates, times, and fields. If you know a certain match number, you can enter it here to go straight to that match. Remember, if the match occurred in the past, you'll have to set the date backwards. It is highly recommended that you keep the Match# box checked so that it appears in your displayed results.
- (No item labeled 5 in the diagram.)
- The Location shows the different places we play games. If you are searching for all games at Central Park (for example), then you can make that selection here.
- The Field entry shows all the different Fields that FC Fremont assigns referees to. You can limit your search to a certain field if you like.
- The Flight field is not often used except sometimes for tournaments. Don’t worry about it.
- The Requestor is a very important field. There are different types of Requestors, and using this field can help you limit the scope of the games you are searching for so that you only pull up the games you are interested to. Let’s go over some of them now:
The FCFremont field is used for all regular season games (you will see this most often). The Celtic Harvest (or Director's Cup, Celtic Harvest, etc) selection shows all games associated with the Celtic Harvest tournament that FC Fremont holds.
- The Type field is used to show the different types of games we have. Let's go over some of them:
We have Scrimmage games (used during the off season for practice games, as well as during the regular season to reserve fields for team practices on weekends). Season refers to all regular season games. Tournament refers to all games that are associated with a tournament (such as Celtic Harvest, Kick or Treat, Director's cup, etc).
- The Teams field can be used if you know part or all of the team name. But be careful, if the team name is entered into our database as "Shark" and you type in "Sharks" then you won't get any results.
- It is best to Sort your results by Date, Time, Field. But you can place with the different ways in which to display the results.
- The Printable button will display your results in a good format to use for printing (set your paper on the printer to landscape).
- Once you have everything set the way you want to, do a Search. You can set the number of results to display (right now it is set to 10). But be careful if you are using a phone modem, doing a search of more than 25 matches might take a lot of time.
- The info you see here (below all of the criteria fields) is only displayed after you have done a Search. Notice how only the fields that are checked show up in the results. Let's look at Match 1510. See that thumbtack next to the match number? You can slide your mouse over it to read some notes that are associated with the match (most matches don't have notes associated with them). Notice that in the results there are two items in this row that are links to elsewhere. The Field result is linked, for match 1510 you can click on "Central Park #10" to get information about that location.
You can also see that Match 1510 is a link. After clicking on it, you'll be brought to another screen (see picture below).
- 16. This shows if any referees have signed up to do your game. For Match #1510 (at the time in which this was viewed), no referees had signed up. If a referee has signed up, you will see Assigned. Otherwise, you'll see Unassigned to let you know that currently there is no referee assigned to that position (whether it be Referee, AR1, or AR2).
- 17. You can also see the notes field again (these are the same notes as those you saw on the previous screen when putting your mouse over the thumbtack).
Let's go over an example.Look at the picture below.
- Look at the Date Field.
You can tell that I am looking for game(s) that occurred on or after 10/13/02.
- Look at the Gender Field.
I am looking for a Boys game.
- Look at the Level Field.
I am looking for a U16 game.
- Look at the Division Field.
I am looking for a Class3 game.
- Look at the Requestor Field.
I am looking for a game that was held during the Kick or Treat Tournament.
- Look at the Search Field.
I am asking the website to show me 10 games. Though I can view the next 10 by click on the arrow on the bottom of the blue bar that says "Displayed 1 to 10 of 14".
- I could have set the Type field to Tournament.
I could have also set the Type field to Tournament since it is obvious (by looking at the Requestor field that I am looking for games that were held during the Kick or Treat tournament. This makes sense, since there were no regular season games (Type = FCFremont) held as part of the Kick or Treat tournament. Only Tournament (Type = Tournament) games were.
What should I do if I can't see my team's game on here?Don't panic! Chances are that there's a mistake in the search fields. If you still can't find the match after double-checking the search or trying other searches, have the COACH of the team send an email to the FC Fremont MatchSecretary. Please include the following information:
- The Date that the game should be held on.
- Field in which the game should be held on.
- All Age, Gender, and Class information.
Send all of this information to the FC Fremont Match secretary (schedules@fcfremont.com) or click on this link here to create an email message...
What do I do if I don't have referees listed?Unfortunately, many games go uncovered. If you know beforehand (by checking this website) that you won't have referees on your game, please be sure to start the game on-time with coaches as refs. Knowing that you won't have any referees beforehand gives you the opportunity to start your game on time (instead of waiting around for the possibility of refs to show up). This is important because it won't delay any games that start after yours. PLEASE don't poach refs away from other fields. Often referees do AR's (a.k.a. Linesmen) only. They don't want to do the middle of another game. Or there are father/son or mother/daughter teams that don't want to be broken up. To help with the problem of a shortage of referees, you can sign up to referees. Please visit the following link for information...
What if the website said I was suppose to have referees, but no one showed up?!?We definitely want to know about this! Please INCLUDE THE MATCH# and send an email to webmaster@fcfremontreferees.org notifying us of this situation. You can also click on the following email link.... |
